  • Modding a Maserati Coupe 4200GT

What about giving the MGM treatment to a proper supercar?

I'm thinking about the Maserati Coupe 4200GT, which is one of the cheapest supercars you can buy (around 30.000 AUS $).

Powered by a version of the 4.3 V8 F136 engine used at the Ferrari F430, it produces a hefty 287 Kw. and 451 Nm. of torque, and it cost about 5 times less than the cheapest F430 you can find.

I wonder what kind of performance could get the guys from this italian supercar.

Is it really a super car though?

Good point, Marty. I'd say it's more of a super car as opposed to a supercar.... Looks great regardless but can imagine getting parts for it in Oz might prove a little trickier than some JDM goodness.

Making one reliable would be a project in itself!

Do they still use the Marelli Throttle body? or was that only in the 3200GT? I've repaired a few of those throttle bodies, diagnosing them is HARD.
I stripped my car out so much it now has 49/49 weight distribution.

I guess it depends on what you consider a supercar...

Is the Ferrari F430 a supercar?

It's not a Ferrari F40, or a Lamborghini Countach, for sure... Not in that league.

It's closer to a supercar than any of the cars modded in the channel, and cheaper than a WRX STI of the same era (half price).

For some people it is, and for some people, only the 1 million US$ models are supercars.

The F40 and Countach are hypercars. Just like the Bugatti Veyron and such are hypercars today. I would consider an F430 to be somewhere between a sportscar and a supercar

But no, replacing a brilliant piece of engineering like a Ferrari V8 with an LSX is just, wrong, I can't even, how, what?!

Edit; At least it would be reliable

                      You can't argue with SBC

His supercars are all V8 with at least 150hp

                        Good one.

IMO that Ferrari is "just" high end sports car.
