  • P's acquired, now what?

Ok, so as the title says, I've got my p's (had them for about a month now) birthday coming up in a week and I've got 6k saved away, with the possibility of an 18th present/contribution to car fund. Any suggestions? Something that drives nice, decent on fuel (not the biggest deal, but experience with an auto falcon ute has left me mortified). Preferably manual, RWD/FWD/AWD it's all good, pretty little coupes are probably my 'dream' style of sorts, but practical sedans/utes etc are also welcome.

I drive a lot, both around town and intercity. Something I can work on myself (hoping to be an apprentice HV/plant mechanic within a month or so), a bit of a daily/minor project car. NSW Provisional laws, so no v8s, no turbo's above 100kw/t for cars that weigh less than 1.4T and 125kw/t for heavier cars.

A couple little ideas I've seen are - S chassis(s13 silvia/180sx), Civic, integra, prelude, lancer, Falcon BA+ etc etc.

A friend is trying to convince me to get a Ralliart colt which is kind of tempting except whenever I see them around they look like ass. Could be a fun project though.

    Thanks for any suggestions/help guys.

Are you a 37 year old woman? If not, then DO NOT GET A RALLIART COLT! YOUR FRIEND NEED SERIOUS HELP! Moving on,

    So you want someting for $6,000, manual, and preferably a coupe. I will now do my usual trick of linking you some cars, and then you can tell me which ones you like, and don't like, then we will eventually narrow down your preferences until we find the one for you. Note, some of there cars will be over $6,000 because Carsales won't let me search for cars that are $6,000 but just because they say they are over doesn't mean you have to pay that much, you could easily get the price down. Here we go;

Here we have some Astra coupe's, they would make a very nice little runabout car.

Now, for some MX-5's. These are really nice cars, and you have probably considered them.

Now we can begin Mr.Chows Carsales lucky dip! This is just a list of some random cars that fit your criteria. Pick a car any car, would might get something you want!

That's all for now mate. So take a look at them, and tell me which ones you like and which ones you don't, and the reasons why. In terms of a coupe the Lancers, MX-5's, and Astra's are your best option. You could get an old BMW, but have fun paying for parts. In terms of a practical car, there are heaps of them around for that price, you could find them yourself, they are mainly little hatch backs that you see around all day anyway. I was going to recommend you a Falcon on gas, but they are all automatic, but if you wanted one, you could get a BA on gas for about $6,000 easy, they are fast, economical, and practical. Here is one> http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...5&sort=default

And this one looks like an XR6! http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...5&sort=default

Anyway, that enough from me for now, hope I helped!

A little civic hatch would be a sensible choice, cheap on fuel, easy to park compared to long coupes with no rear visibility, lots of after market parts, back seats are roomy as hell for a little car.

You've never driven a colt ralliart, so don't make a judgement of them, they are quick little cars
Well, because MX-5 are called girls car by people who aren't good enough to have one, and by people who are jealous that they're driving their mums Pulsar, and they are really great little cars! The MX-5 is actually quite a mans car, because if you drive one then you don't care about what other people think, the MX-5 is one of the best little cars ever built, and it's better than all the cars Mazda are selling now.

I love how on this forum you have to drive a car to be able to have an opinion on them. The Colt is weak, and it is primarily driven by women. My neighbour down the street has a colt convertible, she is a 40+ year old women. Everybody on this forum judge's cars they have never driven, you don't have to drive a car to have an opinion on it. Yes it may well be a "quick" little car (I find that people call little weak FWD cars like the Colt "quick", because they know it isn't actually very good or fast) it would make a great runabout, and would be good on fuel. I didn't go into detail with the Colt, I didn't tell him about the way it feels, I didn't act like I was an expert on it. I just said what everybody thinks when they see one.

You know what, screw what I said original poster, disregard it all, just go and buy a Colt like your friend said, get off your computer and go and buy one right now!

Inb4 OP buys a colt and his dad prepares for him to come out of the closet :P

I wouldn't get a colt coz I think they look horrible , like a Holden barina with a sports bodykit that doesn't add to it because its still ugly.

Edit: got this confused with another thread! Get a corolla , theyre economical, you won't care if you end up scratching etc and they don't die!

SSS pulsar could be fun, might be hard to find a nice one though. Otherwise you might get a nice S13 or an integra would be good so long as you don't mind running premium for the Vtec yoo.

The colt ralliart has plenty of power for what it is. I know three guys who own one each, in fact there is a guy on here who has a great example of one.
You are now saying I contradicted my self huh, WOW, never heard that in an argument before. The MX-5 doesn't deserve to be called a girls car, and I don't know where that started from. And I didn't really contradict myself, because. The MX-5 always gets called a girls car, even though it isn't, which is unfair to the car. So, when you driving around in one, people will call it a girls car, even though it isn't, you know that it isn't, and the people who make fun of it are jealous. The Colt meanwhile, doesn't get called a girls car unfairly, because, it is a very girly car by fact. MX-5= RWD convertible= Manly. Colt= FWD, tiny, easy to park, can fit 20 designer hand bags in the boot. Pretty much, the MX-5 gets called a girls car unfairly, whereas the colt is just actually a girls car. Say I contradict myself all you want, you're just evading the main debate. And that is that the MX-5 is better than the Colt (like a lot of cars are), and that the Colt is weak, and his friend is a terrible person. If his friend wants a Colt so bad then he should just spend his own money, and not get his friends to waste his.

Look mate we can argue until the cows cows home, I have all night to waste. But it's not going to help this guy buy the car he wants. If he likes the Colt he will buy it, same with the MX-5. I see this arguement going nowhere.

Again, doesn't matter. But I am just going to stop, because it's not helping our friend looking for a car here. And they are way out of his budget.

Your car isn't weak. I see fat old women driving my car so yeah. Like I said, he can buy the Colt if he wants, don't let me stop him.

                            Brb buying ralliart colt.

But seriously thanks guys, I'm sure colts are fine, personally I don't like the way they look, was just a 'my head isn't screwed on properly why not' moment, I'm sure we all have them. The little mx-5s are nice and are a contender although I can see storage space being a bit of a problem. Thanks MR Chow, very lengthy list an I'm still sussing it all out.

There's a fellow who's local popping around in a ca18DET 180sx on p's any input on that? I love the s chassis but to find a nice clean one N/A is a job and a half.

This is a bad time to say this after my previous statements, but I actually like the looks of the Ralliart Colts. The base models, as usual, look basic and crap. I just think that the Ralliart Colt would look mad just cruising around Japan, they body kit looks good, the wheels match aswell

                              http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de...d&sort=default

But seriously, don't let me stop you from buying one, if these other two guys have driven them, and say they are good, then they aren't lying. If you like it then go for it! Also, no hard feeling Cal and Impakt, I have a tendency to take my arguments too far. But if you hate paying for petrol, then get a Colt, they weight nothing! Anyway, tell us more about what catches your eye, and we will all put our differences aside to help you
