  • the pocket rocket from hell

hi all, i thought it was finally time to join in and share my still ongoing build

it all started when i was 16 looking through my grandfather shed's i found a 1964 mini panel which i wanted, so he said i could have, unfortunately it was covered in rust and the rear drums were seized so it was literally dragged out of the shed onto the trailer, i also scored a spare 1100cc engine with it as the one in there was a tiny 850
    mini001.jpgmini002.jpgmini003.jpgmini004.jpgmini006.jpg

when i got it home finally, i stripped it down to a shell and found out the the footwells were made of chicken wire and tar :S

*dont let my name trick you im actually a hetrosexual male

after an extreme sandblasting i and repairs i decided i wanted it to be professionally sprayed, and i wasnt allowed to have it black as my parent thought nobody would see me at night and since they were paying for the paintjob i settled on atomic yellow with black stripes (im a massive transformers fan)
    mini012.jpgmini023.jpg

i then started on refreshening the 1100 engine, not replacing any of the internals as they seemed good enough for the moment, did a front disc conversion as i thought it was a bit safer than 4 wheel drums
    mini015.jpgmini017.jpg

and also scored a set of 10x5 minilight rims for $400 new
    mini021.jpg

so the car was almost ready except for the interior

the interior was rather bright on its own so going with the black and yellow them i got some black carpet and threw the old steering wheel out for a more interesting yellow and black one, not too mention drilled and tapped a spare 8 ball cause i always wanted one for a gear knob. plus i scored some sweet seats cheap, but did have alot of trouble making up brackets to fit them in, plus i thought i might add some seat belts in cause its illegal to drive a car with out them if your a provisional license holder in NSW
      mini027.jpgmini028.jpg

so then it was time for her blue slip and everything, which passed in flying colours into the car after an 18month build
      mini029.jpg

and then she became the pocket rocket from hell, but not for good reasons...

        Looks great.
Also those minilites are amazing. One of my favorite period wheel designs.

the day of her first drive, it sheared the inside spine of the steering column out then proceeded to have the light switches fail as i was driving home that night. which totally sucked considering she had passed everything and had taken a 60km trip to get an engineers cert previously.

excpet that it drove around quite well except that it used alot of oil and the speedo was exactly accurate
          mini035.jpgmini034.jpg

so with that all patched up again i drove her around for a few more months before doing something stupid (i was young and really dumb.) as i was driving home from work one night and i went into a roundabout too fast, spun out then went head on into a tree.

luckily the insurance company covered the damages, unfortunately when theyd finished repairing it they sent it off to get a wheel alignment, and at the tyre shop the reversed a 4wd into the front of it causing everything they had just fixed to break

but the tyre shops insurance covered that so thank god, and i got her back on the road, having learnt my lesson. and i drove it to school and back every day (120km round trip) for a few months with only minor things going wrong with it

a few months later she decided to drop a bottom engine mount and snap the top one off too, causing the passenger drive shaft to hit the subframe and start chewing through it
          mini033.jpgmini037.jpg

so i figured why not rebuild the engine while ive got it out and make it more powerful, and while im doing that why dont i redo my sound system, so begun the next rebuild

so i have the engine almost done now, its
            -1275 block .40 oversized
            -high compression pistons
            - unleaded head
            - high flow water pump
            - lightened flywheel
            - heavy duty clutch
            - stage 2 cam
to go with this i got myself some twin 1.25 su carbies to replace the single 1.25 and also a good set of extractors 1.75inch sized up from the original 1 inch
            mini040.jpg

with the sound system, i decided to go loud, fusion power plant loud, i got myself 6.5 pp splits 120wrms and 6x9 pp 120rms for the rear and a 4x110wrms amp to power them
            mini039.jpg

which brings me to where i am now, however in the next few weeks i will have her back on the road before getting a 500wrms powerplant sub in the next few weeks, then a lowered spring suspension conversion and a camber kit in the next few months, hopefully before august

Wow, nice mini, its good to see another mini on here.

              The yellow looks sick

Are you going to be at hay?

With the camber kit just place a mini spares uk order and you will have the parts in a week,

Good luck with the finishing touches

i get all my parts through minisport here in australia, its just a matter of saving up enough money for the K.A.D. parts, theyre expensive but i dont like anything but the best, as its my daily, and i need reliability

I agree with 123 grosso, those wheels are awesome. Actually, the whole car is awesome, I really like it.

I hope I see this around the streets of newcastle once it's back on the road

mini sport aus has some of same products as mini spares uk and even minisport uk.

just have a look and see what the difference in price is as it can work out a lot cheaper getting stuff from the uk.

I got fully adjustable suspension for my mini, brake hoses and a few other things and it around $500 deliverd
if you want to buy them here that's cool but just wanted to tell you about that option, just be carefull of the $1,000 limit.

yeah i know, i guess i came off a bit snobbish, i just dont buy enough stuff at once to justify the shipping is all.
the engine is now fully finished and i just have to install it now =D

never gonna sell it, ive already spent over $30,000 on it
and yeah its a supercheap one, on the old engine i never took it over 6k, however that made it rather slow as it had a rather good diff for rallying (around 5000rpm for 100km/h in took gear) hoping the new one with the mods will reach closer to 7,500

and yes we all need to get our yellow minis together when they are all running
