i want one of these .. i just cant see past the price tho. i bet there is some old granny with one of these in her shead and she will just leve it there.. i have herd of a realy nice 63 beetle that was so clean that a granny had in her shead and her family sold it to the scrap metal and the old dude crushed it and dident care to try and sell it.. all the workers there could not afford to keep it and also get it on the road :/ was a sad day. there is a few of these still kicking :P

good on ya for fixing it up. old cars as good as this need some one to get them and fix them just to keep them alive :P also there engines are old so yea i like that you have to put a new engine or a redone one it it almost 100% of the time :P with some new tires and a few mods to keep it on the road and it will be a sick car to look at and drive :P

keep at it :P its mad

Loving your work mate, apart from that tree business I used to get dropped off at primary school in a red cooper s. Like they said on TG recently you can't be a real petrolhead without owning a mini.

i cant remember what brake booster i ended up fitting to the old girl when i had mine. but if i remember ill let you know as its a hell of an upgrade.
rear discs can be done as well just got to watch the rear subframe as with better brakes it tends to move and before you know it your crabbing down the road....

great build tho mate brings back memories of mine and makes me think i need another one again.

heres a picture of it out in the sun with some of the other cars in my family, took it for a drive through the buladelah mountains, quite a fun road to drive in a lightweight car, this is before i changed the grill over to a black mesh one. mini030.jpg

a brake booster could be fun it just depends if i feel the need for it once the new engine goes in, but i have been browsing at rear disc brake setups, they look like fun, you can also get dual master cyclinders for the brakes with adjustable biasing which could help with the braking balance. it would have to be a must cause its just so light in the back and its a longer wheel base then a regular mini so it tends to oversteer around corners

Alright here is a good question that Im not sure about. As my car is a party car I'm looking to put a 300w strobe light in the back, which needs an inverter to run it. I also have 2 160w driving lights, but they will never be used at the same time. (i will never be using the strobe anywhere near a public road) But along with my stereo which will be 940wrms. I'm going to have to upgrade my alternator I know but what's the go with capacitors? I know people say for every 500w you need 1farrad but what do they actually do?

So it's been a while since I've been able to do much on my baby as I live an hour away from it when I'm at uni. But I wen home the other day and managed to put in all the senders, the new radiator and fan and then put it back in the sub frame. The worst part of it all was putting in the universal joints. There is just no room to do it in the mini, however after an hour of swearing and bizzare angled arms I got them both in.

However it's got me thinking about the power of the engine in my car, so it's time for a history lesson on possibly the most common engine in the world.
My car stock had an 850cc a series engine rated at 25kw and 60Nm
The first engine swap I did took me to an 1100cc a series engine with 42kw and 80Nm
Now I'm swapping in a 1275cc block with lots of goodies but a stock 1275 has 57kw and 107Nm
I'm fairly sure I've already listed the mods that I got done to it when I got it built, it's the usual things bored out, cam, high compression pistons, high flow pumps, unleaded head, etc plus a bigger exhaust (which I think will cause some problems when I install it space wise). So I'm wondering how many kw's and Nm's it'll put out? Anybody got any guesses? I am planning to get it dyno tested after I get an engineers certificate for it. I'm aiming for 75kw and 120Nm

AFAIK a capacitor just stores charge, so you can run your stereo with the engine off and not drain your battery, however I am not an audio expert and part or all of my statement could be incorrect, feel free to correct me if that is the case.

I like the mini, they are fun little cars, I'd love to have one. Does it really cost big money to fix them up?

Personally, I am not a fan of your current steering wheel, I would have gone for something more period, such as a 3 spoke wheel with maybe wood grain, or black with polished spokes anda yellow horn centre to match the colours of the car, but at the end of the day, it is your car, if you like that steering wheel, then more power to you

this one cost alot of money to fix up, but thats cause i went all out with bodywork, paint and engine. the old steering wheel was broken so it had to be replaced and this one is much better than theone i had in it previously.

and now onto the update, im home for 2 days so i got straight to work this afternoon and managed to hook up the majority of my electricals, modify the heat shield for my carbs to fit between the firewall and inlet manifold. test fitted everything just to make sure.

what i still want to get done tomorrow is:
-bleed clutch
-bleed brakes
-attach all fuel lines
- install throttle pedal
- modify exhaust manifold pipes so they dont rub on subframe and uni joints

if i get all that finished then i will moved onto
- cut up old exhaust pipe and fit muffler
- fix up the instrument cluster
- drain fuel tank and replace with normal 98 octane fuel
- start mocking up a panel to cover the storage area between the tray and floor

and there is more to do than that but i doubt ill get up to it.

you are incorrect unfortunately, the Capacitor only stores charge that the Sub can use with out putting a massive load on the battery, as the battery cannot charge and discharge rapidly the capacitor takes that load that the AMP requires, and effectively smooths the voltage-current requirement that the alternator would have to work over time to keep up with.
