  • Wheel setups...

I've got a next level racing wheelstand which i cut myself open setting up and G29 with the shifter... it is like, soooooooo good. And I've got the one of the old dining chairs set up with is for maximum James Bond effect.

    It's mad.

I really want a good simulator setup for both my racing and truck games, trouble is I haven't got the room (or the money) at the moment. Got an old Momo Force tucked away that I break out every now and then but it's only a 270deg wheel and sequential shifter, plus my current desk isn't ideal as the keyboard tray lives underneath

Save up enough money and get what i have, the wheel stand is a pain in the bum setting up and hard mounting the wheel, pedals and shifter to, but it was worth it.

Ideally I'd get one that has the keyboard tray swung off to the side as well, then just get a second monitor and maybe a KVM switch so I'm not always moving hardware around.

I have it set up to the ps4... that way i have a big tv in front of me and plent of room for my setup, which slides away into the corner when i'm not using it.

If space or storage space for that matter is an issue, have a look at the Playseat Challenge. Its a racing seat and frame that can be folded up for easy storage. Not very expensive either. I'm not sure if it will fold up with wheel, shifter and pedals still on it though, that might be an issue as it takes time to put together and take apart everytime you're using it.

The stand i got folds up but it fits perfectly into a corner unfolded... i just drag it in front of the tv, plug it in and done.

As a wheel-less noob, what is a good beginner setup? Lots of forza, dirt and some planning to get a bit more serious!

Depends on how far you wanna go and what the budget is. Logitech G29 or G920 (same thing, different platform) are pretty good but you have to buy the shifter seperate. Logitech G27's can still be found second hand and I know of a simracer who's pretty damn fast with one. There isn't a lot to upgrade on the Logitech's though.

If you want to get a bit more serious, the Thrustmaster T300RS is a good start. Comes with T3PA pedals (with clutch), the wheel can be removed from the T300's base and changed for something else (sold seperate). The T3PA can be swapped out for more serious T3PA-Pro's. If you want you can also hookup an H-shifter (TH8A or TH8RS). Its a great set to start out with and still have the possibility to extend and upgrade if you want to.

T500RS is a bit older and can be found second hand, comes with T3PA-Pro's as standard and the shifter pedals don't move with the wheel, which can be a bit hard in tight corners
