It keeps creeping towards the finishing point.

Then, I picked up a $700 beater truck to use as a tow pig. Now instead of having to ask around for a truck/trailer, I can just rent a trailer and get on with my life.

It's ugly, its beat up but, it runs and drives great!

So this excited me, I was able to find a pair of rear side lights. Needless to say, I installed them as soon as I could. The yard even sent the little stamped nuts to secure them and, the pig tails!

Out of curiosity, I toss a 325 under the car, to see how much room there is in the wheel well. Now, I think the car needs a 325 on it...all of the time. Now, I just need to figure out if a stock Fox Mustang width rear end will allow for that or not and, what backspacing would they require.

I have also been knocking off any of the old, loose undercoating and scale from the underside of the car then, coating those sections in POR15 and chassis paint.

So, I started on sending power through all of the wires. I got the majority of the lights figured out. The rear harness still needs some time to sort out reverse and other lights. Once that is done, I can figure out the final routing and make all the connections permanent. I may also go ahead and wire in the fuel pumps and the intercooler pump while I am back there.

Wouldn't you know it, I go to run and mount the harness going to the rear of the car and I run out of loom...Bah, gotta order more so I can finish up the electrical that I can do. Not to mention, loom the rest of the interior harness.

I may also want to make a bracket to brace the bottom of the fuse block to the firewall, in hopes of cutting down the vibrations.

Also, loomed and mounted the headlight harness. I want to put a connector in, where it comes down the header and turns to the lights. That way, I can just unplug the nose and take it off if, I ever have to take it off. I also think I need to flip the one wire tab 180, so it matches the one that is upside down, going over the center part of the grille.

this thread is simply just pure awesomeness. How much that car should weight when race ready?
As I said my friend is already building a street/race/street race ( ) car and now I found this.. Can't wait to start my own build.

                    • That is a good question and, I have no idea. I keep going back and forth on if I'll be able to hit my weight goal or not. I really need to break down and buy a set of scales and figure it out.

                      • Tonight, I worked on my CAD skills. Once I get the template made, I can do final routing and such for the electrical in the rear of the car.

Welp, got them wired in but, the motors just hum. If I put power directly to them, they are slow to move but, they do move. I remember the windows didn't work when I got the car so, I think I need to rebuild the switches and ultimately get new window motors.

You may ask, why are power windows so important? BECAUSE STREET CAR! Eff a race car.

                          • What's the voltage across the motors when you try to operate them? might just be a bad switch or whatever
I stripped my car out so much it now has 49/49 weight distribution.

I haven't pulled the voltage at the motors yet, nor at the switches. It is possible that the battery charger that I am using just doesn't have enough oomph to power the motors at speed.

I have a feeling that the switches are 90% of the issue, the motors are also the other 10%. The switches are today's project, I am hoping I can take them apart, clean and rebuild them. If not, they aren't an easily nor cheaply replaced item. At least from what I can see, the switch itself may be a standard Ford piece with a different button on it. If that is the case, I'll but new ones and save the headache and WTFs.

                              • I have had power window issues many times with gm cars (mostly chevy vans). Usually the motor itself has bad coals or the motor has so much dust and other shit in it so it won't work. So when the motor is slow it just has shit in them (most of the time in my experience), so cleaning them may help. And often when those motors have been stuck for a while the window linkage starts to get little stiff, so some sort of lubricant is good there.
