  • A video of what it is like to drive a 1.3L Auto

This was a video me and a couple of my mates made 4 months ago when I was getting rid of my 1988 Toyota Corolla GL NOM. It was a 1.3L auto, slow as hell, and I blew the head on it near the end of me owning it. This is while the head was blown too. Now you can see the video!

Sorry for the crap video and sound. But you get the idea. I'm driving:

Edit: I put in a picture to show you why it's a GL NOM

I don't understand how you can't hit lift. If your talking about VVT-i its valve timing not lift like the honda Vtec so it advances the timing via the ecu controlling oil pressure. All the Celica's i drove at work that we're auto went just as fast as the manual ones.

Actually the 2ZZ-GE thats in the Corolla Sportivo, Celica SX, ZR and used by Lotus in the Elise Has VVTL-i (Variable Valve Timing and Lift intelligent system not the 1ZZ-FE VVT-i, or Variable Valve Timing with intelligence
And yes the 2ZZ-GE hits lift just like Honda's Vtec.

Yes your right. Sorry lol should have paid more attention to the letters on the engine cover. But what i was meaning is it doesn't matter if its manual or auto they both drive the same. its only slightly slower just like most other autos

yeh puzzle man is right, vvtl-i hit lifts, its exactly lik vtec but newer. around 6 or 7 revs it kicks in...vvti-l kicked in yo!.
                  thanks puzzle

in an automatic it is nearly impossible to hit those high revs. my mums car is auto with that fake manual
(sportsauto/triptronic/paddleshift/fakemanual) and when u put it in 1st gear and accelerate with out shifting to 2nd, it will upshift to 2nd by its self for safe reasons.

I have hit 7000 - 8000 revs in my Auto Celica. Im not much into "fake manual" as to me it's either auto or manual however i believe you can get descent performance from them if you know how to drive them properly.

On another note, Here is a pic of my older sisters 1.3L auto, Toyota Echo with my Celica. Looks fair? LOL
