The nikon D3100 is a great piece of kit for beginners. I use one myself and if you could be bothered looking back on previous pages you'll be able to see my work and all of them were taken with the D3100 with the same kit lenses that came with yours (18-55 and 55-200). If you're just starting out as well (which I will assume since you got the D3100) then my suggestion is to read the instruction manual. I know it's boring but it will help out a lot. I learned a lot about how to shoot just by reading the manual. And it is correct that the 55-200 is not the best lens but it certainly does the job well (for me at least). All up the D3100 really is a great kit especially for the price. It is not impossible to get pro quality pictures with them if you know what you're doing. n_n
