For the camera bag, it depends on what you plan on doing. Are you going to get into photography heavily? will you have a lot of lenses? Will it need to be waterproof? How big do you want it? For me, i got the rugged canon backpack with my kit. Its a great little bag, and it was perfect for starting out, nice and light, could carry my lenses and camera. But then my kit got bigger, It couldn't carry a flash, or anything else i'd take while traveling (I fly to NSW every few months, so a bag i can travel with is a must). I now have the Lowepro Pro Runner 450 AW which is a great bag, holds a lot of stuff and can hold all my travel gear too. Although, it is a bit big. But thats okay. It comes down to whether you want a shoulder bag, or a backpack, and from there, what you plan on doing with it.

Lens recommendations, after 50mm, if you have the money, id say get a 24-105mm.

My wife has a D80 and is wanting a 50mm 1.4 for Christmas.
Been doing some research and there are so many out there! My current options seem to be:

        AF 50mm 1.4 D
        AF-S 50mm 1.4 D
        AF 50mm 1.4 G
        AF-S 50mm 1.4 G

I believe the D80 has it's own internal motor so do we really need the 'S'? I know it's alot quieter and quicker but it's a hellavalot more expensive!
From my readings, the D seems to be superior to the G as well?

Anyone have any experience with these?

        Cheers
Ive got the old 50mm f1.4 AIS ones. Do they count? Once you use a AF-S or any other motor of the sort, then youre inclined to stick with them. They are much quieter and usually quicker. The 50mm lenses dont make too much of a difference at all.

As the D80 does have an internal motor, then the AF versions work fine. I would go for the AF-D since its cheaper, and does have an aperture ring. AF-G doesnt have the aperture ring and is more expesive. Its newer or soemthing, but still is almost the same as the D version.

                    • My gear bag isn't too great these days. I sold my beautiful M9 + glass to buy a second car...

Mainly shoot these days with my Nikon F5 or Zorki 4k. I also have a Panasonic LX-3 lying around when I actually want to look at the photos afterwards .
