  • Team MCM in Ride to Conquer Cancer

    Hey all!

Jade and Nick are going to lock up their cars and Ride to Conquer Cancer!! It's a 200km ride from Sydney NSW to Camden NSW and back. http://www.conquercancer.org.au/
    Introducing...

    Team MCM!

Our team fundraising target is $6000 ($3000 each). All the proceeds will help build the The Chris O’Brien Lifehouse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA), a world-class cancer treatment and research facility providing integrated care and support services to public and private patients. These funds will support breakthrough research and the discovery of new cancer therapies, in an environment thriving on discovery, research, and promising care and support for cancer patients and their families.

As some of you may already know, Jade's brother recently recovered from cancer (woohoo!!! ), thanks to the great advances made in the treatment of his particular cancer. These breakthroughs are made possible by events like the Ride to Conquer Cancer. We're sure there are other MCM'ers out there who have cancer research and treatment to thank, either for their own lives, or for the lives of their loved ones, and we want to represent you!

However, her grandfather is still battling By supporting Team MCM in the Ride to Conquer Cancer, you will be helping organisations like the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse get closer to finding cures for many different kinds of cancer. Through this event, we can help prevent other families from having to struggle with this heatbreaking disease.

When we say "heartbreaking," here's what we mean: with 1 in 2 Australians diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and an estimated 115,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in Australia in 2011, cancer is the second leading cause of Australian deaths and affects almost 20% of the population. More than 43,600 people are expected to die from cancer in 2012. That's why we are riding. To do something BIG about cancer. We hope that you'll share this incredible adventure, by supporting Team MCM in our fundraising efforts.

You can support us - any help from the MCM community would be greatly appreciated!
Here are the links to donate!

(Please donate to which ever rider has the lower amount, so we can reach our individual and team goals. Or if you're feeling generous - donate to both!)

    Training Update!

    Hey everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying your hot cross buns

So far we've raised $1,240 for Team MCM - that's 20%! Only $4,760 to go

Nick and I have stepped up our training - we've been doing 20km rides, and we'll be increasing to 30km this Sunday at Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush (home of the legendary P5 carpark!).

We want to thank everyone who has already supported us. I can't believe how generous so many of you have been. Of course, we still need everyone's support.

If you're thinking of making a donation, please make it now. The money is used by the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse at RPA as soon as we raise it, not after the event happens. Plus, we don't want to worry that we won't meet our goals!

Also, everyone can support us (even if you already have!) by sending out our requests to all of your friends, family and co-workers. Think about it, 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It's huge and we need to do something about it.

Thanks everyone, for your well wishes, your encouragement and your support. We can do this, and we know it's because of your help!

Remember, you can check out the Team MCM progress at

            2JZman's dad is MAAAAD

            Team MCM Training update!

Blade888 and I have been pedalling hard, and are feeling the sore bums and muscle burn! We rode 31kms on Saturday along the very cyclist unfriendly Pacific Highway (we pretended we were pedestrians so the cars wouldn't get us!), and 22.5kms today around the much nicer riverside pathways at Homebush.
Found an awesome bridge next to the railway line south of Meadowbank - check out the pics!

Blade888 @ Rhodes Railway bridge by razoxane

That's great to hear your dad's participating 2JZman - it's such a fantastic cause, and the more people involved the better
Speaking of involvement, Team MCM are up to $1650 - only $4350 to go, and we need all your help to get there!
If every forum member donates $25, or even $10, we'll easily reach our goals, and the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse will be able to help treat, and maybe even save more cancer sufferers. And guess what? Every single cent of your donation is 100 percent tax deductible!

Remember, 1 in 2 people in Australia will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime - let's try and change those odds!
I'm sure many of you know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, or have lost someone to cancer, just like 2JZman.

You can make a big MAAAAAD MCM difference - please donate today!

                          Gear Specs

                          Hey all!

You asked about the bikes, so here's the lowdown!

Blade is riding a Merida Big 9 TFS 300-D.
This hardtail 29er mountain bike for long distance cross-country, all terrain marathons. The 29 inch wheels have far less rolling resistance than normal 26 inch mountain bike wheels, allowing easier negotiation of obstacles.

Razoxane is riding a Merida Crossway 100-D.
It's a flat bar road bike with light offroad capabilities. Blade ever so kindly fitted a set of XLC Bent Bar Ends for me, to provide a variation in riding position - really helps with comfort on the longer rides!

The friendly folks at 99 Bikes in Artarmon got us all set up - if you're looking for a good bike at a great price with awesome service, give them a call!

We went for the flatbar/mountain bike style as we want to do more than just road cycling. On the training list are some bush trails such as Manly Dam, and Lane Cove National Park.
The videos are from Trailflix - a multimedia portal to Sydney mountain biking trails & off-street cycleways, including videos, photos, news and maps - great for scoping out new training areas!

Got any other questions about us, our bikes, training or fundraising? - ask away!

Also, if anyone would like to join us on a training ride, we'd love have the company and meet some more MCM'ers who ride
Post a reply, or send us a PM to tee up a ride!

To wrap up, here are some pics from a recent ride around Homebush:

                            Fundraiser meet with ClubCJ
Last weekend on the 26th of May 2012, we had a small meet with the CJ Lancer club and raised a few hundred dollars there! There were lots of prizes, on the meet DIY installs of new bits guys got from group buys, and free food and drink and BBQ for all. Was an awesome meet and special thanks goes out to Rake for coming along and being the guest to draw the winners prizes.

                            Half way there!!
We are now half way there!! Woohoo! At time of posting this we are now at 51%!!

Big thanks to everyone who has donated and big thanks to the MCM crew for all their support so far!!
