  • Killing rust for CHEAP! Youtube special for all of you!

Allright so MightyJohn prompted me to make this quick video for the forum. As a Mod I feel it is my duty to start contributing more useful posts. I will follow two formats. One will be video the other will be Just the info.

EDIT: Heat is the key to speeding this up!

This has been untested on large areas but works in vessels as well as on small parts such as nuts and bolts.
    1. Take a beaker or other glass, ceramic or plastic container large enough to hold your parts.
    2. put enough citric acid to = ~5%
    3.Add boiling water.
    4. Let sit for up to 30 minutes.

Tip: For extreme scale get rid of surface rust

Tip: This is not reccomended for parts that are fragile as the acid attacks Iron as well as its oxides. !!This acid attacks cadmium!!!

How it works: The Ions in the acid readily combine with the oxide of iron and break it down. It also attacks steel but at a much much slower rate. This seems to not affect Aluminum or its oxides. It also does not seem to affect Stainless to a visible degree.

As always thank you. Any questions can be posted here.

Thanks Robert for this, sounds (looks) like a really interesting solution. I'll give it a try in the near future for sure.
