    sounds like the linkage is binding. No way to tell for sure without taking off the door panel. But that's what I think it is

        hey the USDM celicas don't have transponder keys... are you sure your celica has a transponder? I can give you the instructions on how to program toyotas of your year if you want it though.

                Hey Peter25, The back hatch of my 1988 rx7 lock isn't working.

                When I put the key in I can tun it about 5 degrees but it stops as soon as it hits the levers that open the hatch.
                If i want to open the hatch i have to climb into the car (through the front) and manually rotate the lever that opens it(the lever moves freely).
                Its not a complex opening system so I have narrowed it down to the lock.(it feels sort of like its the wrong key)

                I have tried wd 40 with no luck. As its a 24 year old car i was wondering what the chances that the lock has gotten stuck because of rust or something?

                  My 2002 honda accord has a factory central locking and immibilizer. Is there anyway if programming aftermarket remotes to it. Or will I have to buy some oem ones from the dealer?

                    good thread!
                    I'll add to people watching, don't hang unnecessary weight off your keys, this puts a constant load on the mechanism and accelerates the wear on the key and tumbler. its one of the main causes of the "key pulls out of ign when ign is on" issues.

                      your key is probably worn out check for signs of wear. you can refer to the other comments earlier in the thread or if you want take a crystal clear up close picture of the key and i can diagnose it from there

                        I would just do some online research I know it's possible for other makes and models. I think security features vary from domestic markets. I was talking to Mr. Vtec (who lives in Australia) earlier about his celica he was trying to get a key programmed. He was certain it had a transponder (electronic anti theft device inside of the plastic key cover NOT the remote) the USDM versions don't have transponders check with a car specific forum or your equivalent to Autozone they would be of more help.

                          NAILED IT. i remember this 16 yr old girl came into the shop trying to get a key made for her Mazda 3 that had a transponder IT WAS ATTACHED TO HER WALLET! (weighed a few pounds at least) those keys are only made out of brass lucky I caught it or it would have snapped off with all the weight hanging offthe key while in the ignition

                                i have a ford focus 2000 reg petrol , when i press the centrol locking the locks lock but then bounce back open. If i try with the key on the drivers side , they lock then unlock. if i lock with key on passenger side it only locks but the passenger side.

                                do i simply just need a new drivers side lock?
